Marketing degrees can provide an “in” to almost any industry these days. Because every industry requires its own form(s) of marketing. Traditional roles a marketing degree can place you in include product management, copy writing, and advertising. In recent years, however, a wide range of new media marketing angles have opened as well. Whatever marketing role you’re seeking to land, it’s important to study the best practices of design, learn how to read and analyze consumer data, and read between the lines regarding consumer behavior.

We’ve ranked schools according to the following criteria.

Methodology:

  • Student Services (1/4): ranking based on the incorporation of diverse learning technologies that enable a learning experience commensurate with the experience of traditional learners. Career guidance, an online library, tutoring, financial aid, advisors, interaction with peers, student clubs.
  • Student Outcomes (1/4): the percentage of matriculating first year students who graduate in 150% of the estimated total program length.
  • Number of specializations (1/4): the number of unique paths that marketing students may take.
  • Affordability (1/4): the estimated tuition per credit hour for attendance.

 

1. West Texas A&M University

West Texas A&M University offers a fully online Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing (among three other concentrations). Of programs surveyed, A&M scored highest by a long shot. Ranking 1st of programs surveyed in three of four categories. The degree is structured for working adults seeking to balance their undergraduate schoolwork with busy work and life schedules. Students may take all classes online, on-campus, or a mixture of the two. And all students receive the exact same degree they would receive from traditional on-campus study. Student support and outcomes for West Texas A&M’s online BBA are the highest of programs surveyed, with 66% of students graduating within %150 of the program length. Academic support and counseling is comparable to traditional on-campus programs. Estimated tuition is also the lowest of surveyed schools, at $284 per credit hour.

2. Colorado State University

Colorado State University’s Global Campus offers a fully online Bachelors of Science in Marketing degree identical to CSU’s on-campus marketing degree options. As with all of their online bachelors degree offerings, CSU offers a wide variety of specializations. Nineteen to be exact, placing CSU in the top ranked position of schools surveyed for number of specializations offered. Specializations offered that pair particularly well with the marketing curriculum include business administration, programming, data management and analysis, human resources and organizational development, project management, and strategic communications. Though the options for a personally-tailored degree are numerous. Student services and outcomes are also ranked very highly for marketing at CSU, with greater than 80% of students achieving core aptitudes during the degree process, and over 40% of the student body graduating within 150% of the standard program length. Estimated tuition per credit hour is $350, making CSU the fourth most affordable program surveyed.

3. American Intercontinental University

American Intercontinental University offers a fully online three year Bachelors of Business Administration program with a specialization in marketing. AIU gears all of their degrees towards working adults, and accordingly offers a variety of options for speeding up the time it takes to earn a degree in an individualized way. Students may transfer up to 75% of credits needed for the degree (lowering the time needed to earn a degree to nine months), and prior work or military experience may be substituted for some required credits. More than half of all AIU students take advantage of transfer or prior work experience to lower time until degree. Perhaps also due to their personalized approach, AIU is one of the highest ranked of schools surveyed in regards to student outcomes. Over 60% of matriculating students graduate within 150% of the standard program length. AIU is the second most affordable of those surveyed, with an estimated tuition per credit hour cost of $302.

4. Regent University

Regent University is one of the only Christian Universities in the ranking, and currently offers a fully online Bachelors of Science in Business with a concentration in Marketing. A number of minors may be paired with the online degree including leadership, information systems, or communications. A number of electives offer students the ability to focus more intently on a variety of marketing applications: marketing research, public relations, e-commerce, or advertising and promotion. 5. Arizona State University

Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business–one of the top public business schools to offer undergraduate courses online– offers a fully online Bachelors in Business degree with a concentration on communication. While a distinct field of business, communication and marketing degrees offer considerable overlap. For this particular degree, students receive the same general business core offered by all undergraduate business degrees from W.P. Carey, as well as concentration courses focused on the rapid and considered spread of strategic messages sent across both company channels and directed at the public. ASU’s online bachelors programs rank highly for both student outcomes and support, with 83% of first year students choosing to continue their education of ASU online. Estimated tuition per credit hour for ASU’s business communication program is currently $523.

CTU is currently the third most affordable program of those surveyed, with an estimated per-credit-hour price of $325.

National University offers a fully online Bachelors of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communications, a degree unique to our ranking. For students looking to focus slightly more on traditional business (or other) offerings, NU also offers a certification in marketing fully online. The BA degree is centered around a business core and augmented by advanced communication skills as they relate to Web 2.0 and traditional marketing standards. The degree is set up to prepare students for a variety of persuasive careers, including PR, fund raising, advertising, and sales roles. Of programs surveyed, NU boasts the third highest score for student support, and the 8th ranked position for student outcomes. Over 40% of matriculating first year students graduate within 150% of teh recommended time until degree. The estimated cost per credit hour is $516.

Consisting of 120 credit hours, Penn State’s Bachelors of Science in Marketing offers the breadth and depth of offerings one would expect from a prestigious research university. Topics students may take coursework on include consumer behavior, business-to-business marketing, marketing in a global business context, advertising and sales promotion, and marketing research. Penn State comes in at the third highest ranked school of those surveyed for student support. Slightly over 40% of matriculating first year students finish the four year program in 150% of the estimated time it should take, perhaps indicating that the degree definitely isn’t a walk in the park. 14. Herzing University
