Ashford University is a for-profit, online university headquartered in San Diego, California. Formerly Mount St. Clare College in Iowa, the University was purchased in 2005 by Bridgepoint Education Inc., who changed the name to Ashford University and opened a campus in San Diego. The Iowa campus was closed in 2016, and now Ashford University hold all of its classes online, offering associates, bachelors, and masters degrees in more than 50 different majors through five different colleges: Forbes School of Business and Technology; College of Education; College of Health, Human Services and Science; College of Liberal Arts; and Honors College. Over 41,300 students attend Ashford, which has a 15:1 student-to-faculty ratio. The tuition for a year of full time online classes is $11,032. Accordingly, Ashford was on the National Center for Education Statistics 2015 list of most affordable four year colleges, with a tuition that was 33% lower than the national average.

The online curriculum is made for working adults. Ashford offers 5-week courses so that you can take one class at a time and still be considered a full time student. They also allow students to transfer up to 90 approved credits from other accredited institutions.
